What is a Labyrinth?

A labyrinth is an ancient walking path used for reflection, meditation, and quiet contemplation. Unlike a maze, it has a single path that gently winds to the center and back out again, allowing walkers to focus on the journey rather than finding the way. For centuries, people from many cultures have used labyrinths as a tool for prayer, mindfulness, and personal insight. Walking the labyrinth together creates a meaningful opportunity to slow down, breathe deeply, and connect not only with yourself, but also with the surrounding community. This gathering is offered as a community outreach event by The Yoga Connection to invite people to come together in reflection, peace, and shared experience.

Why the Summer Solstice?

The Summer Solstice marks the longest day and shortest night of the year, when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. Celebrated for centuries across many cultures, it symbolizes light, renewal, and the fullness of life. It is a time to pause, reflect, and connect with nature and community. As the peak of the sun’s energy, the Summer Solstice invites us to celebrate growth, abundance, and the beauty of the season

Meet Our Summer Solstice Teachers

  • Ayla Amon is an RYT-200 yoga instructor who specializes in yoga for athletes. When she isn't curating the Greensboro History Museum, you can find her running trails, baking, or curled up with her partner and cat. She loves engaging with the women of TYC and learning words in new languages every week!

Luciane Rodrigues
  • My name is Luciane Rodrigues. I am from Brazil and have lived in the United States for four years. When I arrived, I did not speak English, and adapting to a new culture was challenging. With the support of programs like GTCC and Together Women Rise, I received encouragement from the community. I also received a scholarship from Forsyth Technical Community College, where I studied small business and began my journey as a craftsperson. Through The Yoga Connection, I have been experiencing a welcoming and supportive community that helps me build confidence and a sense of belonging. I believe every challenge is an opportunity to grow.

  • Veda Spidle is a certified Yoga Therapist and an advanced-level Yoga Teacher (ERYT-500), with additional certifications in sound healing, Yoga Nidrā, Kundalini Yoga, and Reiki. She specializes in integrative approaches that weave together sound, breath, and gentle movement to support nervous system regulation and emotional wellness. With an open-hearted, knowledgeable, and intuitive presence, Veda’s passion for teaching empowers her to guide individuals of all ages and ability levels on their personal wellness journeys.

Charisse Koba
  • Charisse is a licensed esthetician and esthetics educator with 18 years of experience in both medical and traditional skincare. Drawing from her experience as a singer, she brings a natural attunement to sound and vibration into her sound baths, creating an experience that is both intentional and deeply felt. Through her practice, Awaken Esthetic, she integrates expert skincare with sound healing and Reiki with a simple belief at the core: healthy skin needs a body that feels safe enough to heal.

  • Allison Spooner is an RYT-200 yoga instructor and elementary school teacher. She loves creating safe, nurturing spaces for her students (of all ages!) to thrive. She is very grateful to be a part of the TYC community and connect with so many amazing women over the years.

Adriana Benitez
  • Adriana Benitez-Malinow has been part of the Greensboro community for over 15 years and volunteers with The Yoga Connection. Originally from Puerto Rico, she brings 20+ years in corporate communications into her work as a Realtor—where she believes in the power of connection and guides clients through buying, selling, and investing with care and trust.

Susan Pate
  • Susan Pate is a 200-hour yoga instructor who specializes in restorative yoga and sound healing. Her yoga practice began as a physical practice to recover from injury and surgeries to a much more spiritual practice, learning to connect body, mind and spirit. She enjoys time in nature, laughing, playing, creating, learning about anything and everything and living a life

Chris Burdette
  • Chris Burdette has practiced yoga for over 20 years and began teaching donation based yoga after completing her first certification during the 2020 lockdown. She later received her sound healing certification with Veda in Spring 2025 after experiencing the powerful effect sound had on her nervous system. Chris hosts seasonal yoga gatherings on family land in Virginia, honoring nature, community, and the rhythm of the seasons. She will continue her studies this summer with an immersive YTT training in Minca, Colombia, and is grateful to share sound and movement in celebration of the Summer Solstice.
